Church social media calendar from one Sunday sermon
Plan one week of church posts from Sunday’s sermon. Day-by-day calendar for volunteers.
Build a church social media calendar from one sermon so Monday is planned, not invented.
You do not need a new message every day.
You need one Sunday sermon and a simple calendar. That is enough for a calm Monday through Friday on church social media.
This page is the operator view. It tells you what to post each day. For the “why” behind sermon-first strategy, read church social media strategy: one sermon, one week. Keep this tab open when you are the person filling the week.
Why one sermon owns the week
Churches get tired when every post needs a fresh brainstorm. The sermon already carries theology, stories, and a clear point. Your job is to extend that point across the week, not invent a second theme.
One message also protects the church’s voice. Guests who see Monday’s clip and Wednesday’s quote should recognize the same teaching. That consistency builds trust faster than a scatter of unrelated graphics.
Aim for presence, not volume. Five solid touchpoints beat ten thin ones.
7-day church social media calendar
Use this as a default. Adjust times to your service schedule. Keep the sermon title the same all week.
| Day | Post type | Job of the post | Owner | Time box |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sunday | Capture + handoff | File and notes ready for the week | Pastor or media lead | 10-15 min |
| Monday | Plan + pick moments | Choose 3-5 clip candidates and one quote line | Media volunteer | 30-45 min |
| Tuesday | Clip 1 | Strongest teaching or story moment | Media volunteer | 45-60 min |
| Wednesday | Carousel or quote card | Same point in still form for the feed | Media or design volunteer | 30-45 min |
| Thursday | Clip 2 | Second clear point or application | Media volunteer | 30-45 min |
| Friday | Reminder + soft invite | Service time, location, or “see you Sunday” tied to the theme | Admin or volunteer | 15-20 min |
| Saturday | Light reshare (optional) | Reshare one midweek post to Stories or groups | Whoever is free | 10 min |
Total focused time for one volunteer is often under four hours across the week once the pattern is familiar. The first week takes longer. That is normal.
Print this table or copy it into your team doc. A visual version helps new volunteers.
Clip vs carousel vs quote vs reminder
Do not make every day a video. Mix formats so the same sermon feels fresh without changing the message.
- Clip: Short sermon moment that stands alone. Best for emotion, a clear teaching line, or a short story. Always run a human review before export.
- Carousel: Swipeable still slides on Instagram or Facebook. Best when the sermon has a clean sequence of points. Use when people need to read, not just watch.
- Quote card: One line, large type, church brand. Best for a memorable sentence that stays true out of context. Fast midweek filler when time is tight.
- Reminder: Service time, campus, or “join us Sunday.” Tie it to the week’s theme in one sentence so it does not feel like a random flyer. Keep the tone warm and clear.
If you only have energy for three posts, ship Tuesday clip, Wednesday quote or carousel, and Friday invite. Protect quality over a full grid. See how to review sermon clips before you post and how to turn sermons into carousels.
Who owns each day
Small teams fail when “someone” owns everything.
- Pastor or admin: Sunday handoff: file, must-keep notes, do-not-clip lines. Optional Wednesday glance at draft clips if they are the reviewer.
- Media volunteer: Monday picks. Tuesday and Thursday clips. Export finals after review.
- Design helper (if you have one): Wednesday carousel or quote card. Can be the same volunteer with a Canva template.
- Whoever posts: Schedules in the tools you already use. VelaClip helps you prepare and export. Your team still posts with your normal scheduler or apps.
Write names next to the calendar rows each week. A blank owner column is how Friday gets forgotten.
Review before you post
Build a review gate before finals go out.
- Monday: pick candidates.
- Tuesday: draft first clip.
- Wednesday: review meaning and captions, then publish the still post.
- Thursday: second clip only after the same checklist.
Do not skip review to “stay on calendar.” The calendar serves the message. If a cut fails the checklist, kill it and move on.
